Environmental Leadership Program Overview
Realize your full value Explore new skills and tools at Kinship.
At Kinship, we believe in investing in individuals with the potential to advance the future of conservation. We do this by selecting the best and the brightest and awarding them a $6,000 stipend and a month of valuable, cutting-edge training. In return, we ask Fellows to invest a month of their time with us.
Our month-long curriculum is delivered by a faculty of global experts who work closely with each carefully selected cohort of Fellows to explore fresh ways to apply market-based approaches to environmental concerns. With our specialized methodology that uses Fellows' projects as interactive case studies, you'll find new solutions to your real life conservation challenges. Over the course of your month with us, you’ll attend dynamic sessions, participate in collaborative and independent projects, and enjoy a rich, multi-faceted experience.
Our Fellows’ track record of success makes it clear that our investment benefits not only Fellows, but also their organizations, and the greater conservation community. Fellows bring home new ideas, tools, and fresh inspiration.
If you’ve been working in a conservation field for five years, and you're eager to strengthen your ability to lead - you're a great candidate for Kinship.
Outcome-oriented. Conservation-specific.
Fellows can expect to come away from their Kinship experience with the following outcomes:
- Fellows will gain a thorough understanding of economic and market factors that determine the success of conservation projects.
- Fellows will develop a detailed proposal for a conservation project integrating market mechanisms and viable economic analyses and solutions that they can apply through their current or anticipated work setting .
- Fellows will enhance leadership skills in preparation for taking a stronger role in the broader community of conservation practitioners.
- Fellows will expand their network of conservation alliances and forge important and enduring relationships through the Kinship Conservation Fellows community.

"The 'Kinship method' includes conservation, innovation, economics, leadership and institution building. Since returning from Bellingham, I've tried to incorporate that complete package of skills into the Missouri Prairie Foundation's efforts to protect and promote our native grasslands, all the while keeping the perspective of private landowners in mind."
